Chess Pa Svenska – Somone Else’s Story – English subs test
Some folks wanted to see more, so here’s a bit to whet your appetites. I am currently working on creating English subtitles for the Chess Pa Svenska DVD. This is just a rough test to give an idea of what the finished product will be like. The word choice, formating, etc, are all subject to change and revision. If you care to help with the translation, especially of the spoken dialog, please post here, or email me at chesstranslation@gmail.com Note on translation of the lyrics: Whenever possible, I will be using Tim Rice’s original lyrics unless they are explicitly incongruous with the action on stage or the intent of the Swedish version. As many of the songs are as direct a translation of Rice words as are possible when translating lyrics from Swedish to English, I think it makes more sense to use the original English lyrics rather than lyrics that have been translated from English into Swedish and then back to English. If there is enough interest, I will also create a second subtitle track with a more literal translation of the Swedish lyrics.

This translation is completely wrong (this is the English version of the song — the Swedish version is about something entirely different).

I’ve listened to eight different productions of Chess, and Helen is by far the best Florence I have heard. Amazingly beautiful voice and interpretation of the character.
Konstigt att den svenska översättningen är inte alls som orginalet på engelska. Det handlar ju inte ens om samma sak. Jag tycker dock att den svenska versionen är MYCKET bättre. Jag älskar Helen Sjöholm

Helen Sjöholm is fantastic! She’s got the best voice in Sweden, and it can’t get any better to have the greatest male voice, Tommy Körberg, in the same play!
It’s funny how great both the English and Swedish version works, although they’re quite different…
It is amazing. She has a wonderful voice and this is my favorite song in the musical. Helen you are a STAR!!
Yeah, I thought that too. She is very, very convincing here, but in the cast album she’s not as involved in the character as she is here.
That’s not saying she isn’t great in either DVD or CD! She’s a great singer and actress.
Helen Sjoholm is an outstanding “Florence” in the filmed version of the play- vocally brilliant, and dramatically invested in the role… but what’s funny is she comes off less convincing on the cast album (still great tho!)
man oh man, i just adore everything about helen, her voice, appearance, emotional interpretation, humour……….. you swedish must be sooooooooo proud. Does sweden allow dual nationality with england? ;o))

Lite fel översatt
This is a lovely version of one of my favorite songs. Even though I don’t understand Swedish, the two actors clearly show the action in the story. The lady singing does a wonderful job, and, yes, I would love to see and hear more of this musical play from this production.
