Learn Chess On Your Own ? The Basics For Beginners
When people get to play chess for the first time, it is expected that they will be somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer complexity and volume of material they need to learn. And learning the basics is a challenge in itself. Well, if you’re a rookie and if you want to be successful, then you can – provided you prepare yourself mentally and emotionally. Learning a new skill is not always easy, but it is possible.
The very first step is to set up your board. Next, learn the basic moves, fundamental strategies and what the main aim of your game is. Let me to help you out in this matter. And I’ll try to explain things as simply as I can. I’m going to call this crash course the ABCs of chess. There’s a line that goes, “Simplicity is the essence of a genius.” I couldn’t agree more with whoever authored such line! So, here is the simple method I’ve mentioned earlier:
A) The Board: The chess board is composed of black squares and white squares arranged in alternating fashion. Eight squares comprise one row and there is a total of 8 rows on the board. By convention, you can’t arrange the pieces just anywhere on the board. At the commencement of the match, they should occupy the 2 rows nearest the player.
B) The Pieces: Although the pieces are, based on tradition, often termed “black” or “white”, they can actually be any colour. Each player is expected to have a king, a queen, 8 pawns and 2 pieces for each of the following: horse, tower and bishop. All pawns occupy the front row, while the rest of the pieces are arranged right behind the first row.
C) The Moves:
Pawns: They can advance two squares for the initial move, and advance one square thereafter. To capture the opponent, you can advance your pawn 1 space diagonally to either left or right directions.
The Rooks: Rooks can freely advance, move backward or glide sideways. However, they can only do so minus other pieces blocking their movement. No leaping over another piece is allowed.
Knights: Allowing your knights to take action is trickier. They move erratically – two spaces forward and one square to the right or left in an L shape.
Bishops: Let your bishops glide in a transverse direction on the chess board. As with the rooks, the bishops can move several squares per turn – if and only if no skipping of other pieces occur.
Queen: The queen’s moves combine those of the bishop and the rook. She can advance or retreat vertically, horizontally and diagonally, but she can’t jump over other chess pieces.
King: He can move one square in any direction: forward, backwards, side to side or transversely.
In all chess matches, the goal is one and the same: Secure your king and capture the opponent’s king. You’ll also wish to sweep the board of all your adversary’s other pieces too, or as much as possible. Although your first few matches will not be as good, you can increase your competence match after match. Switching from basic to advanced chess is a gradual process. Good luck!

The common notion is that chess is a difficult game. People think that chess is only for those who are gifted or super smart, because it is beyond the reach of ordinary intelligence. The truth, though, is that chess can be learned by anyone.
First, you have to know what the rules of the game are. If you do not know the rules and look at a game in progress, it seems very confusing. Some of the pieces may go forward, backward, sideways, or obliquely. Others may move one square; some go two or three, or even the whole length of the board. One of the pieces is removed from time to time. These moves may seem complicated, but they are all made in accordance with a number of simple rules.
Second, you have to master one strategy at a time. It is impossible to master a strategy overnight. Read up on winning strategies, study them, and plan how you can apply them when you play.
And third, you have to practice often. They say that practice makes perfect. Ask someone, maybe a friend or a relative, to play chess with you. Do not take the game too seriously, but instead, have fun while learning more strategies or techniques.
The brief time it will take to learn how to play chess will be a small price to pay for the many years of pleasure that the game can bring you.

Learn How To Beat Chess Computers
This article goal is to assist you winning a bit more often against chess computers. A few things that really help are to be able to understand how they work and think, be able to predict what sorts of things they might not spot and to understand what parts of the game a computer is better than humans at playing.
Since Deep Blue victory over Gary Kasparov it has become apparent to all that computers are very good at playing chess. But, fortunately, they still have weaknesses, so with a little preparation the results of playing against chess machine can be improved. A chess computer assesses who is ahead in a slightly different way to how many human players would. The piece values are the same, but not all humans would consider some of the other factors that a computer does.
How Chess Computers Play
Computers use evaluation functions to determine as accurately as possible the likely outcome of the game from that position, however it doesn’t need to take account of a great deal of tactical information, as hopefully the tactics in the position are taken care of in the variations themselves.
Strategies for Beating Chess Computers
Breaking rules of Thumb – The chess computers evaluation function is basically a list of ‘rules of thumb’ and when you give it a position where these rules aren’t valid it will still blindly follow them (unless it can see the consequences).
Opening choices against a master Tactician – When faced with a master tactician one should try to avoid open positions, where simplistic strategies of centralization and tactical awareness predominate. Openings that tend to lead to ‘quiet’ positions are to be preferred against computers. For example, in positions with a closed center and a build of wing attack behind a pawn advance, in most cases modern computer programs seek counter play with a pawn advance on the opposite wing, but they are outplayed as they don’t recognize patterns for opening files, and make lacklustre moves.
Bookish Opponent – As we have said modern computer chess programs have extensive opening books, but often primitive understanding of a position, so one strategy that has been used successfully is to deviate from book early. Many of the Grand masters do not use this strategy – perhaps they have the advantage of being familiar with all the latest analysis – possibly even more up to date than the machines – but for the less strong players, this is a useful strategy and probably will give the club player good practice at thinking through opening plans.
Win the Endgame – Look for non-standard Endgames, in which chess computers can be mislead by the pre-defined evaluation of position.
Play Great Chess – Always a good strategy in chess and can make up for not following any of the above advices
